Monday Afternoon Workshops 

The ACM schedule is designed for attendees to participate in morning General Session lectures and then to select one afternoon workshop in which to participate.  All afternoon workshops run concurrently so registrants cannot attend more than one each day.

OB Emergencies Simulation Workshop (*OSC)     NOTE: This workshop time will be 1:45 - 5:15 p.m.
Faculty: SOGH Simulation Faculty
High fidelity scenarios designed to emphasize communication skills and team work principles for standard and complex obstetric emergencies.  Both novice and expert participants will learn and review core teamwork principles such as SBAR, closed loop communication, situational awareness and debriefing.  These principles will be practiced in high risk scenarios that may be faced by the OB hospitalist. Specific scenario objectives include:

  1. Review indications and techniques for safe vacuum assisted vaginal delivery
  2. Review maneuvers and present a sample strategy for management of shoulder dystocia
  3. Review in detail Hydatidiform Molar gestation common patient presentations, medical complications and their management in the acute setting
  4. Review current treatment recommendations for management of acute hemorrhage
  5. Learn the diagnostic criteria of the classic amniotic fluid embolism presentation
  6. Understand the current management guidelines for an amniotic fluid embolism
  7. To review basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation ​
  8. Learn the important modifications of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a pregnant patient

TeamSTEPPS is a teamwork system developed jointly by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to improve institutional collaboration and communication relating to patient safety. The Fundamentals course defines and demonstrates the TeamSTEPPS 2.0 tools and strategies in the areas of team structure, communication, leading teams, situation monitoring, and mutual support.

Training Skills Stations
The stations offer opportunities to observe and practice the application of vital surgical and technical skills outside of an emergency setting. Stations include skills required during post-partum hemorrhage, impacted fetal head, laparoscopy, maternal code, LARC and more.  A volunteer SOGH physician skilled in performing a specific procedure utilizing a specific device(s) will lead each skills station.

Nexplanon Workshop (NON CME WORKSHOP) will conclude at 3:45 p.m.
This session includes hands-on training for placement and removal procedures as well as localization techniques. Completion of this course will allow the attendee to order NEXPLANON® from an authorized distributor. The training is open to advanced practice clinicians with furnishing numbers or prescribing privileges in their state and to physicians only.  

During the clinical program for Nexplanon (etonogestrel implant) you will receive hands on training for insertion and removal procedures, as well as learn implant localization techniques. Completion of this course will allow you to order the product from authorized distributors. This session, which is authorized by Merck, is not accredited for continuing education credit. The training is open only to advanced practice clinicians with furnishing numbers of prescribing privileges in their state. It is Merck’s policy to verify all clinicians’ practice, license, and eligibility information in advance of the training. Merck will contact you directly if there is a problem. Participants are expected to attend the entire training session, which is approximately 90 minutes in duration. Certificates of attendance will not be issued for persons who arrive late or leave early.
